Privacy Policy

Menu Translate ("the App") respects user privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect user data.
1. What We Collect
The App does not collect any account, phone, email, or other personally identifiable information (PII).
Data generated during use:
- Menu photos you take or select. These images are sent to our server for AI recognition and released from server memory immediately afterward — not stored or persisted.
- Text you enter in the "Translate text" dialog. Used only for instant translation, not stored.
- Translation history is saved on your local device (up to 20 entries), never uploaded.
- Your preferences (language, currency, theme) are saved on your local device.
- Subscription status: verified via Apple StoreKit. We do not access or store your Apple ID, credit card, or transaction details.
2. Permissions
- Camera: Used to photograph menus. Activated only when you tap "Take a photo".
- Photo Library: Used to read existing menu photos. Activated only when you tap "From Photos".
- Network: Used to send menu photos to AI services (Anthropic / OpenAI), fetch dish images from Pexels, and query exchange rates.
3. Third-Party Services
The App uses these third-party APIs:
- Anthropic Claude API (primary recognition and translation)
- OpenAI API (fallback model)
- Pexels (dish image search)
- open.er-api.com (exchange rates)
Each service's privacy policy is governed by its respective provider. We do not pass any user identity to them.
4. Data Security
All network requests use HTTPS encryption. Our relay server is located in Silicon Valley, USA. It only forwards requests and does not write to disk or log user uploads.
5. Children's Privacy
The App is intended for users aged 13 and above. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
6. Policy Updates
This policy may be updated occasionally. Material changes will be noted in the App's release notes.
